What is CADWorx Electrical?

CADWorx Electrical is the electrical DWG-based 2D CAD design module of CADWorx Electrical & Instrumentation Design Suite, used to produce intelligent circuit diagrams including electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, 1-line diagrams, cable block diagrams and loop diagrams. CADWorx Electrical has a rich set of CAD drawing and database tools to automate and speed the production of electrical circuit diagrams and comes with standard symbol and manufacturers parts libraries.

CADWorx Electrical is an extremely powerful tool for producing 2D electrical and control diagrams and associated reports. CADWorx Electrical is typically used by Power Distribution, Switchgear and Control Systems designers. CADWorx Electrical consists of highly productive design tools and a set of comprehensive libraries to be used with CAD and Database systems.

CADWorx Electrical increases efficiency by using its in-built tools to automate repetitive tasks forced upon the designer, such as automatic circuit cross referencing, project wide global attribute editing and automated wiring diagram construction. Labour costs in your design projects can be significantly reduced by these efficiency gains.

CADWorx Electrical increases accuracy by checking for circuit errors such as inconsistent cross sheet continuations, open circuits, short circuits, and duplicated tag use. Accuracy improvements reduce “sheet flipping” checks and the “rework” associated with errors. This leads to obvious cost reduction in your design projects.

CADWorx Electrical has an open structure which allows flexible design practices and user choice of standards and can be simply customized to work your way. The CADWorx Electrical database interface “Ebase” allows designers to work on diagrams as engineers work on specifications and tagging for those diagrams – true concurrent engineering.

The CADWorx Electrical user interface is loaded into a CAD program (AutoCAD/BricsCAD). Most native 2D CAD commands, techniques and methods of design are available in the CADWorx Electrical user interface.

CADWorx Electrical also includes a Cable Scheduler module, which provides an interface to an underlying database, either Access or SQL Server.

Power Drafting Tools

Power drafting tools make placing intelligent electrical symbols a breeze. Symbols are easily manipulated and build relations to what they are connected to meaning they react and move when changes are made to the layout.

Ladder Diagrams

Detailing digital control circuits showing how power supply to electrical components is controlled, placement of multi-rung ladder type diagrams is possible in one click.

Single Line Diagrams

Detailing power supplies and loads used to analyse power consumption and load usage and sharing, plus potential fault currents, single line diagrams are straight forward to draw.

Three Line Diagrams

Used for fault finding and wiring of loads, construction of three line diagrams combing various symbol sets selected from vendor catalogues is quick and easy.

Cable Block Diagrams

Outlining the various components and connections within a cable system or network, cable block diagrams can be quickly defined.

Sub-circuit Management – Assemblies

Save time and effort placing multi-symbol arrangements using assemblies. Where the same arrangement already exists in a drawing, ensure everything is uniquely tagged and labelled by adjusting/incrementing before placing the assembly into the drawing.

Error Checking to Find and Eliminate Duplicate Data & Tags

Being data driven it is easy to find and eliminate duplicate data and tags by querying the data associated with symbols in a connected database.

Automatic PLC I/O Cards with PLC Module Builder

PLC I/O connects the brain of the PLC, the CPU, to the outside world, the machines being controlled. Place I/O cards with ease using the PLC Module Builder.

Automatic Wiring & Terminal Strip Diagrams

Detailing cable and wire connection to strips of terminals inside Panels or Junction boxes, and wire connections between devices in any panel, used to assist in connecting all terminals and devices in a panel, wiring and terminal strip diagrams can be automatically generated from the information in the database.

Automatic Materials tables

Automatic creation of Bills of Materials and cross-reference tables for the components in a project, where each major block of a table represents a component type with the quantity of that component that has been used in the project, is efficient and accurate.

Cable Scheduler Module

Cable Scheduler is an SQL database tool for managing your plant or project cabling. It manages creation, integration with upstream circuits, termination, routing, and materials. Cables can be directly added to the project database via Cable Scheduler, without CAD operations being necessary, saving time and effort.

Automatic Project-wide Changes to Library & Symbol Properties

Saving time and ensuring data consistency and accuracy, changes to electrical component data and symbol properties can be edited on a global basis across the project and in the database.
